Antigo Optimist Marji Majewski, center, receives two new bikes from Astin Krueger and Scott Mishler, Wal-Mart managers. The bikes will be awarded May 19th during the Stand For Children celebration at Head Start on North Clermont St. Optimist and Bike and Ski Club members will be teaching younger children and their parents safety tips and bike rules along with doing minor maintenance on participant bikes. The Safety event will start at 10:00 AM and conclude by 1:00 PM. It is open to all youth attending Stand for Children Day on May 19th. In addition to the Bike Rodeo, Optimists will be conducting the Safe Assured ID program to provide critical information for parents and law enforcement in case of a missing child.
Optimists and Bike and Ski Club volunteers will also conduct the Annual Langlade County Bike Safety Rodeo on Tuesday, May 22 starting at 3:30 PM at the fairgrounds multipurpose building. Additional prizes, new bikes, gift cards, coupons and other prizes being donated by community businesses will be awarded at the May 22 event. Antigo Optimist members will be serving food and beverages to all participants and their families. All youth ages 6 to 14 who are planning to enjoy bicycling this summer are encouraged to bring their bikes to the Fairgrounds between 3:30 PM and 5:00 PM. Bike maintenance volunteers will be available to inspect and adjust bikes before the skill and bike knowledge events.
